Santa Cruz Public Wave

This is the Santa Cruz Skate Park’s full pipe. I worked on this public art project with local skate artist Jimbo Phillips and concrete artist David Pettigrew to create a proposal for the park’s strongest visual element, the 17′ full pipe.
Diamond D Concrete Capitola. We had to go to a meeting on a rainy stormy Saturday along with 23 other artists some local and some seasoned professional public artists. This took several rounds of interviews, estimates, production, and guts. I had never tried to sand blast art of that scale and the fact it was permanent and public what if people didn’t like it. The reminder of that would be always at the park. Turns out it looks awesome and I smile every time I drive by. Go skate!
