James Durbin Surfboard Build
We had one week to build this board for a James Durbin Day event at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk the mayor Ryan Coonerty of Santa Cruz presented American Idol James Durbin with this board instead of a key to the city in front of 30,000 fans. Kevin Walsh created the illustration directly on to the board. Doug Haut made the custom 8’6″ shape and donated his shape, labor and factory tools to finish the board. Wingnut offered free surf lessons, Hotline Wetsuits 2 custom wetsuits one for James and one for his son. Santa Cruz Skateboard gave two complete cruiser longboards…and more. Durbin Year 2011. Photo shoot by photographer Jay Watson was at the Wriggle Building a last minute set up thanks to Digital Media Factory for lending us some space. Thank you to Hilgard Muller for shooting the photos on location. And for Hilary Bryant for paying for the board out of her own pocket and then not even getting to get to go to the event. She is an amazing woman.
